I am SCARED.
What does it take to stand out ?
Standing out takes a fair amount of courage and willpower. Standing out means being different. Being different means having your own opinion, disagreeing with others, walking against the stream - saying no and keeping your word no matter who stands next to you. Does it sound scary?
Everyone wants to stand out, but we're scared to be different. Doesn't make any sense, does it? When I look back a few years, I started to realize: 'Oh hey, I'm using my camera as a tool to express myself! ' I always questioned every single image and thought 'Wow I like this image, ... but what would other people think about it?' I certainly used to care more about what other people think than confidently expressing myself and being proud of what I have created. It is a painful place to be in, and it hurts even though there is no direct threat. Why was I so scared of sharing a simple artwork? Yes, we're still talking about pictures, but it doesn't really matter, we could also talk about making music, painting or collecting rubbish from the street and creating things. But that's not the point; the point is: 'Why do we care so much about what others think about us?' It's almost like being in a mental prison, restricting ourselves from the things we love doing.
